Why a Windows Smartwatch can be The Big Thing , if released Sooner than Later

2007 - 08 :  Apple iOS vs Google Android Smartphone War began ,
Microsoft was nowhere in the scene, and ,
a much more deserving Windows Phone is still suffering the aftermath for being late into the game.
It's iOS & Android covering more than 90 % of the smartphone market now.

2014-15 : The 2nd biggest Tech war between the Next-Gen. devices ,  Apple Watch vs Android Wear is Catching Fire . Again, No sign of Microsoft/Windows Smartwatch yet.
Honestly, I would Hate to see history repeating itself,

If going by the trends, this wearables war is going to get heat up even more by early 2015, with Apple Watch shipping right at the start of 2015 and other Android OEMs coming with their smartwatch versions.

If, Microsoft is indeed planning for a Windows powered smartwatch then , this is the right time to strike. There are reasons why a Windows Smartwatch would work in Microsoft's favour if it gets released sooner than later :

1.) After SATYA NADELLA took over & Nokia's acquisition , Microsoft has continued to focus on being a Services & Devices company , and a Windows based Smartwatch will allow them to maximize the reach of  Bing/MSN web offerings in a new manner , and lock new users into their mobile & web platform.

2.) By introducing a windows smartwatch with integrated Cortana and other popular features , that work with a Windows Phone, Microsoft can tempt more users to buy a Lumia and get its slowly growing mobile OS sales,  a much required boost.

3.) Until now , nobody knows and still trying,  how to really make a smartwatch desirable for the consumer, I mean , frankly speaking , its no more than a fancy smartphone accessory with a remote desktop like functionality. But, in case of Windows  it can be much more .
If, Microsoft decides to make the smartwatch compatible with all Windows 8.x , Windows RT or Windows Threshold(aka One Windows) devices other than being limited to Windows Phones,  such that it could work with Windows Tablets , Laptops/ Hybrids there is a very high possibility that, alot of consumers would jump in and give it a try. Every next person owns a carries a Windows laptop and,  a Windows Smartwatch coupled with it makes sense.

Just Imagine .... the ability of  getting Store Apps notifications , and Firewall/other Windows Update alerts on your Windows smartwatch , remotely playing Music/Videos on your Windows machine through the smartwatch. Also, being able to Sleep/Wake Up the Windows device , or controlling your Home Network comprising of Windows devices , controlling some of the  XBOX functionality, just through a click of your Windows Smartwatch.
Heck, this thing can act as a 2nd mouse for your Windows Device, given some well executed apps & third party developer contribution.

A windows based smartwatch has a lot more possibilities & advantages than one can imagine , and if executed in the right manner, can prove to be a huge problem for Android Wear.

Its the Internet of Things Era, and I feel its a Now or Never for Microsoft to launch a smartwatch , instead of waiting for the users response for Android or Apple watches.
They did this mistake of WAITING in the past , with the Smartphone .

Hope the new transitioned Microsoft Gang under Satya Nadella strikes soon , before its too late AGAIN !!

  1. Hi.
Honestly I believe that a "watch" is totally unuseful.

  2. David , I am glad you agree . Share it with other developers around and let's raise our voice , hoping for Microsoft to listen to its Developer community . :)
