Surface 2nd Generation Tablet Launch, Clearing Confusions on "Surface" Products Line Up
#Microsoft is all set to Launch the 2nd Generation of #SurfaceRT &#SurfacePro on September 23,2013 in #NYC.
The Redmond based Tech Giant sent out Media invitations for the unveiling of the next generation of their Surface Tablets.
Firstly, let's take a look at the Rumoured Specs :
- A 1080p display
- A Two-stage kickstand, overall, the Updated models are gonna have the same Look & Feel as the current versions.
We all know by now, that the Current versions of Surface have struggled to create an impact on the crowded Tablet market.
Especially, Surface RT, which, being a Disaster, left Microsoft with a $900 Million loss.
Surface Pro, though managed to grab some Eye Balls and, did a decent Business.
Let's keep it simple & straight:
1. Surface RT: "Killer Hardware, but a Rushed Software" .
The word "RT" itself is the Major thing that just didn't appeal the users. Acc. to me, Microsoft should have given significant time to Windows 8 & the Windows Store to Grow & Mature. I mean, just think about it, which Windows 8 User would like to be completely dependent on the Modern Apps in the Windows Store (100,000+ in just 10 Months) instead of having an option for accessing Desktop apps, too. Windows RT OS, undoubtedly, was launched in a Rush, with a Bad Timing. And, trust me when I tell you, Surface 2 RT is not gonna help them.
2. Surface Pro: "Awesome All-Rounder, but, Marketing Gone Wrong"
This version managed to put up above average earnings for Microsoft, and from my perspective, Surface Pro is the Windows 8/8.1 Machine, that deserves Much Much better reception than this.
After having zillions of Online & offline discussions, I have gathered the people thoughts, their response, and, that brought me to a conclusion ,that, Microsoft made a wrong Marketing decision, by promoting Surface Pro as a "Tablet". More than 90% of the people still consider Surface Pro as a "Tablet"(just by looking at its 10-inch Size).
BUT IT IS NOT!!!
Why?? Let's clear this Confusion :
- PROCESSOR : "Tablets" are meant to run on ARM based chips or others like Nvidia, Snapdragon, etc. and Not on Core i3/Core i5 based chips, because, those are architectured and designed for Notebooks, Desktops and in this case with the Surface Pro.
- A Convertible : Yes, Surface Pro is Technically(in proper terms), a Hybrid/Convertible just like a Lenovo Ideapad Yoga, Dell XPS 12, HP Envy X2, etc. that switch between the Tablet and Laptop form factors, with the Exact Same specs as a Normal Laptop/Ultrabook.
- EXTERNAL FEATURES : After looking at the Internal Specs, let's take a more closer look at it, Does a Tablet allows you to connect External Devices like HDD, USB, MicroSD, Ethernet Cable, HDMI, and any other you can think of , and also, offering a Full Fledged Desktop based OS? NO. And, Surface Pro, just like any other Hybrid Ultrabook allows you to do so. Then, Why market it as a Tablet, Microsoft ?
- PRICING : Another confusion is with the cost, which restricted a lot of people to purchase the Surface Pro. Just tell me one thing , Which Base Model of a Tablet costs you $700-$800?? LOL!! This is where Microsoft's marketing fell flat on mouth. They should have cleared it at the time of Launch that Surface Pro was not in any form a Regular Tablet. Only Convertibles/Ultrabooks cost you this much.
A 10.1 inch screen doesn't make a Tablet, when its offering are no less than a Hybrid/Convertible .
Hope, I cleared some doubts regarding "Surface", as the release of 2nd generation Surface products is on the verge, I am expecting better Outcomes this time.
